Once he gets near the Teleporter though, it isn't as easy to get the time to speak to it due to disembodied hands snatching him up, which do let him down, but not very close to the ground, ending with Buck trying something that is hilariously absurd. Godot then needs to travel to another planet to get information from a teleporter and thinks up a clever plan to get closer, which surprisingly works out well. When they start talking, we learn that Godot is able, or is having delusional conversations with said rival's guns, which he had been conditioned to no longer believe were ever talking to him, but Godot obviously still did, because he had a nice aside with the "gats" after knocking out his sidekick. Buck seems to unknowingly sense this and havoc ensues, not soon after we become privy to this information. Godot then has a run-in with the "package" he sent, which actually contained a former opponent, now turned sidekick on Godot's mission the employer insisting he take on.

Thanks to the WayBackMachine! Aliens who overuse grammatical terminology as description in casual conversations with each other, and of course Buck himself, a strange and somewhat sad-seeming character who goes around collecting contracts to kill whoever is willing to pay in some form or other.īuck is soon tracked by a former employer when he is sent a package, supposedly from Buck himself, which may lead him to Buck's whereabouts, which aren't known by anyone. Juste note thatthere are many references to things that appear only later, like early references to the Gallimaufry or the Winslow, showing that there was a plan and the author was not just making things on the go.Quite amusing. It is in this third arc that most of the truly HFY moments are to be found, but I cannot reveal more without spoiling the many surprises.
Buck godot online series#
To give an idea, the Teleporter is classified as a class 8 power, while humanity is only class 12 (the *individual* teleporter is a class 8, not its species), but it is mentioned that our hero has managed a class 3 before, using help from *the* class 1Īfter that is the PSmiTH arc, but more important the series then turn to politics in a big space station with the Gallimaufry arc where humanity will face new challenge to survive in the galactic community and Buck will be in the middle of the events. In the X-Tel arc, Buck Godot has to deal with former employers who want to capture a unique alien called "The Teleporter". The story starts with a short story with a classic "damsel hire a bodyguard" theme, nothing really great at first, but after that and despite the parody style of the series, it has in fact great world building and story arcs.Īfter the initial short story, there are two medium arcs and after that the big major arc that makes 80% of the story. Note : despite the looks Buck Godot is not fat, he is muscled and big boned, coming from a high gravity world where humans evolved (or where modified) to better handle the local conditions.

The graphic style is rather old and might seems ugly to some people, but Phil Foglio art has something that is in-temporal, and it serves the general story well.

The story was posted in full on the author website, but was later lost after a website update, but thankfully webarchive has a complete copy available : After having referenced it recently in a post comments, I realized that the old scifi comics "Buck Godot" was in fact very HFY and that others might not know of it.
